There is a brief moment of Christmas morning excitement when my husband and I decide to go away alone. Then, I shift to mom mode and I worry and worry and worry a bit more. I worry about my son, about his caretaker, usually Grandma plus the 100 other normal things moms worry about on a daily basis. Typically, I have enough time to finish worrying and start planning the trip details. However, this trip to LA was so last minute that I was running around until hours before we left. I decided I would research on the plane. Instead, I woke up when we landed in LA and fyi, researching while you sleep doesn’t yield good results. I know, this sounds like a story that’s going to end badly… Luckily, it didn’t and for once, not planning paid off! We did quick, last minute research and the places we ate at were so good that I decided to share.
Best Places to Eat in LA
- Jon & Vinny’s – 412 N Fairfax Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036 – $$- Laid-back atmosphere and modern interior, plus, super friendly employees. We had the hand-tossed breakfast pizza and buttermilk pancakes with berries and salted butter. It was fantastic!
2. Republique – 624 South La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036 – $$- Delicious, French-ish food, pastries and cocktails. We had the brioche french toast and corned beef hash. The tables are communal which works out great when you are traveling and want to ask locals for tips. The restaurant is a building which was built by Charlie Chaplin in the 20’s and it has the most beautiful tilted, enclosed courtyard area (picture at the top of the page). This was hands down, the best french toast I’ve ever tasted (yes, it was worth ALL of the carbs).
3. In & Out Burger – There are a bunch, no address needed – $ – Yes, it’s fast food but it’s really good fast food. They make their fries onsite daily. You can watch them cutting real potatoes through the window, which shouldn’t be a novelty but let’s face it, it is. Try your fries animal style and you will get cheese, delicious 1,000 island type of sauce and grilled onions. Trust me, when you are stuck in L.A. traffic and YES it’s way worse than most other cities, you will be so delighted to see an In & Out Burger sign. They are kind enough to give you an open box you can eat out of while you sit in traffic for 2 hours to go 3 miles.
